The Situation

1218 Team’s client is an “ad serving” solution provider. “Ad serving” is the technology and service that places advertisements on web sites. The client wanted to meet the growing needs of its advertisers with a new and robust self-service platform. They asked 1218 Team to develop a comprehensive tool to create, manage, and monitor multiple online advertising campaigns.

The Challenges

• Architect an ad server that can process more than 20 million calls per day:
  • Upload advertisements and rich media
  • Deliver ads according to differing business rules
  • Target ads to different users, or content
  • Tune and optimization based on results
  • Report impressions, clicks, post-click & post-impression activities, and interaction metrics
  • Frequency capping so users only see messages a limited amount of time. (Advertisers can also limit ads by setting a frequency cap on money-spending)
• Develop reporting tool to generate real-time dashboard reports.
• Implement a secure admin website with a user-friendly interface for advertisers.
• Integrate credit card payment processing.
• Build a database that can capture over 10 millions unique entries each day.

The Solution

1218 Team developed a group of dynamic data driven transactions servers – including multi-stage business logic engine, implemented on top of a SQL Server database.
The database captures over 10 millions unique entries each day. The reporting tool generates real-time dashboard reports to management, system administrators, and advertisers on key performance indicators.
Much like “Google AdWords” the ad serving system built by 1218 Team allows advertisers to enter keywords, domain names, topics, and demographic targeting preferences – on a local, national and international level.
